How we handle overdue business loans

A plain-English summary of what happens if a Credicorp business loan falls behind on a payment — and what does not happen.

How we handle overdue business loans

Most of our customers never need to read this. But if a business hits a tough month and a scheduled payment misses, we want directors to know exactly what to expect from us.

The first thing we do is talk

If a payment doesn't reach us on the date it was due, our first action is a courtesy reminder — an email and an SMS — letting the company know, and inviting a reply if there's a problem. Most missed payments resolve at that stage, often within a few hours.

Within two weeks: a conversation, not a confrontation

If we have not heard back, we will phone during business hours and follow up in writing. If the director tells us the business is in difficulty, we go straight to a payment arrangement or a hardship variation — both are described on our Help with payments page, and you can request either using the forms on our Forms & Requests page.

What we will not do

We will not pursue the director personally. A Credicorp business loan has no personal guarantee, so the director is not personally liable for the company's debt to us. We will not call you outside reasonable hours, sell your debt to a third party without telling you in writing first, or apply a charge that is not in your Business Loan Agreement.

The full step-by-step collections timeline — including the Pre-Action Conduct Practice Direction we follow before any court proceedings — is on our Debt collection page.

If something is going wrong now

Please tell us early. Free, independent advice on business debt is available from Business Debtline (0800 197 6026). Talking to them costs nothing and can help you see all your options.
